Lucky Star Shines on Chap Goh Meh... and on ME!

One more thing about Malacca, it's not THAT happenning compared to Penang or KL (no offense to my Malaccan friends out there). But I'm still not used to NOT hearing firecrackers bombarding everywhere during this time of the day, Chap Goh Meh or the fifteenth day of the lunar calender.

I did have a splendid surprise from the hawker aunty opposite SilverCity. Me and two of my, housemates do not want to go to pasar malam today (wednesday). Every Monday & Wednesday, there will always be a pasar malam (or a night market in english) in Bukit Beruang. So, we planned to go to SilverCity to have our dinner. On our way there, we have to pass those stalls, suddenly the 'cute' aunty suddenlly called out to us, "Want to eat? Come, come and eat. Have your dinner here." And we were like, huh?? We are surprised actually, speechless. I think she saw our confusion. Then she told us that she have this so called free-of-charge-mini-buffet every year on the 15th day of CNY. Then we went, "ooh...." (still speechless). She continued, "Come and eat. Come and join us. Look on the bright side, you can even save on your dinner expenses". She smiled. We went, "oohh.. hahaha... nolah, Aunty, don't say like tat." The cute aunty kept insisting us, saying that we have fate with her and that's how we ended up at her place. Then she straight away handed us 3 plates and straight away words came out of my mouth, "FOR REAL??!!" This got the whole 'audience' laughed. Those words was not being processed in my mind before i splurted it out and then only i realized that we actually had an audience full of about 3 tables... looking, listening, and laughing at our cuteness/courtesy-ness. Ha.Ha. I felt like hiding my face.. somewhere.. somewhere behind my housemates. But my housemates are not tall enough! If i hide behind them, it'll be like a giraffe hiding behind a cow's back. *pls don't punch me, dear housemates. have mercy on me... though it's partly true... bleks =p* Eventually, we took the plate, ate there. Her food is quite nice as she served fried bihun, fried mee, chicken leg herb soup, fried wantan, homemade meat balls, stewed/braised couliflower with carrots and black button mushrooms, and curry chicken ad her main course; drinks are only orange juice; and some groundnuts and some sweet soft jellies for dessert. It's only a simple homemade buffet, so we cannot expect too much lar.... Hahaha... Frankly, it's delicious, finger licking good. Especially those meatballs, i love them the most. Everytime the cute aunty passes our table, she'll say, "Eat. Eat more, ya. Don't be shy. There's plenty more food."

We ate and we sat for a moment, chewing those jellies and listening at the cute aunty's jigles and jagles whenever she calls out to more of her friends. "Come lah, come lah and eat. Bring an empty stomach." Turns to another person, "Ask your friend to come along lah." Turns to a youngster, "Aiyoyo, don't pretend you didn't hear me calling lah. I was practically shouting already (she IS shouting). Call XiaoHei to come." Turns to us, "The three of eat some more ok? You're all not rushing for time, right? Eat more. Eat more." We just nod our head, with mouth still full of jellies and groundnuts. We saw her dragging another students/victims. They too, were like us in the beginning, couldn't believe their ears. One of them asked whether is it for real? Me and my housemates grinned widely, with some half munched nuts stuck between our teeths. They ARE EXACTLY like us in the beginning.

We thank both the cute aunty & uncle and left the cute aunty's stall when we've finished.
Stomach's full. Famished. Satisfied.
And today, i DID NOT NEED to spend a single cent on dinner.
Call me calculative, but today, luck's on me~! o:-)
Happy Chap Goh Meh~!!!!!
(i still want more angpows.... =( still not enough for me...)

*P/S: Btw, luck's on my hsemates too! (since they are with me. hehehe... =D )
*Take Note:
-Cute Aunty's dialogs have been changed to English. Good English. You wouldn't want to see me writing in mandarin mixed with hokkien here. Or you'll be seeing question marks above your head. (****???***)-

mui, i can't believe you actually complain on the food. ("just orange juice"). If i got a treat of fried rice also i feel thankful already.

This aunty and uncle i believe are those who sell pig intestine soup one right? They are nice people. Even if it's not the couple that i mentioned. We can't find such couples in western countries. It's like you have to call before u come, if not, dinner will not be prepared. It's already in the culture not to serve food.
